Where is VanPort Jazz based?
We are based in Vancouver, Washington. We perform all over the Northwest, but specialize in the Portland, OR metropolitan area.
What is the instrumentation of your band?
We have the “standard big band” instrumentation: five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, drums, bass, guitar, and piano. One of our trumpet players doubles on female vocals, and one of our trombone players doubles on male vocals.
How big is your song book?
We currently have 300+ charts/songs in our book, and have access to hundreds more.
How much does it cost to hire VanPort Jazz?
Our rates start at $1,500 for a two hour performance. This rate is negotiable for non-profit organizations.
I play an instrument and might want to join VanPort Jazz. How can I get an audition?
Experienced big band jazz musicians can contact us using the information on the Auditions page. Please do not show up to rehearsal expecting to audition or sit in without arranging it first.
Is your music appropriate for dancing?
Absolutely. Many of our performances are focused on dancing.
